Erie Insurance, a Pennsylvania-based Fortune 500 company, is still dealing with the aftermath of a serious cyberattack first discovered on June 7, 2025. Two weeks later, the company’s systems remain offline, creating major disruptions for customers and agents alike.
The company, known officially as Erie Indemnity Corp., provides auto, life, Medicare supplement, and cyber insurance. Following the discovery of the breach, Erie quickly activated its incident response plan and notified law enforcement. It also brought in a top cybersecurity firm to help understand the full impact of the incident.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
While no ongoing threat has been confirmed, Erie Insurance has verified that the issue stemmed from a cyberattack. As of now, there is no evidence of ransomware, and no cybercrime group has taken credit. However, the wide system outages and customer service delays are signs often seen in Erie Insurance Cyberattack cases.
The company’s filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reveals that the investigation is still in its early days. It’s not yet clear whether any sensitive policyholder data was accessed or misused.
Customers Urged to Stay Alert
During the outage, Erie Insurance will not contact customers to request payments. Policyholders are being warned not to click on suspicious email links or give out personal information. Anyone needing to file a claim should still reach out through their local agent or Erie’s First Notice of Loss and customer care teams.
As Erie works to restore its systems, many customers are left frustrated but hopeful that service will return to normal soon.
