Kate Philips Joins PA Women’s Advisory Commission

Kate Philips, CEO and president of kate & co., has been appointed to the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women by Governor Josh Shapiro. She will join a diverse group of leaders from across the state to advise on issues impacting women and girls in communities throughout the Commonwealth.

Focus on Equity and Opportunity

The Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women was re-established by Governor Shapiro to prioritize equity, expand opportunities and elevate the voices of women, especially those who are from underserved communities. Members will work closely with state agencies and the Governor to address challenges, recommend solutions and advocate for meaningful change.

Bringing Local Experience to a State Role

Philips plans to draw from her extensive background in advocacy, leadership and community engagement. As head of kate & co., an Erie-based creative strategy firm known for its work in storytelling, design and public engagement, she has built a reputation for fostering collaboration and innovation.

In addition to her professional role, Philips serves as Chair of the Redevelopment Authority of Erie County and holds board positions with the Erie Police Athletic League, the Erie Zoo and the Children First Action Fund. Her experience working at both grassroots and organizational levels positions her to make a strong impact on the Commission’s work.

Commission’s Mission

The Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women is tasked with gathering and assessing information on the needs of women across the state. The group then recommends policy and program improvements to the Governor, ensuring that women’s perspectives are part of decision-making processes at the highest level.

Philips’ appointment reflects Erie’s growing presence in statewide leadership and signals a commitment to making sure voices from Northwestern Pennsylvania are heard in conversations that shape policy.

By combining local insight with statewide collaboration, the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women aims to create opportunities and address barriers so women and girls across the Commonwealth can thrive.
