Serafini’s is making a comeback—nearly a century after its humble beginnings. In September 2025, Serafini’s Trattoria will open its doors in downtown Erie, proudly reviving the rich culinary legacy that began in 1938 with Assunta “Nona” Serafini and her husband Eduardo.
From a small kitchen on West 12th Street, Nona created more than just food—she created a family tradition built on flavor, love, and hospitality. Known for her hand-rolled meatballs, homemade sauces, and warm welcome, Serafini’s quickly became a community favorite and a symbol of authentic Italian cuisine in Erie.
The Legacy Lives Through Generations
Serafini’s was passed through generations—from Nona and Eduardo to their son Tony, and later to grandson Bob “The Meatball King” Serafini. Over the decades, the family expanded, adapted, and stayed true to their roots. Even after the restaurant left the family’s hands in 1995 and closed in 2020, the recipes and spirit were never lost.
Bob and his son Eddie safeguarded those original recipes, and in 2024, Amanda Serafini, Bob’s daughter and Nona’s great-granddaughter, began selling small-batch sauces and meatballs with her husband, Opie Hughes, under “The Serafini Family” name.
A Fresh Take on a Classic
Now, Amanda and Opie are ready to bring that history back to life with Serafini’s Trattoria. This new restaurant will honor nearly 100 years of family tradition while introducing a fresh, modern dining experience.
The menu will feature original family recipes with high-quality ingredients and contemporary flair. Every detail—from the kitchen to the atmosphere—has been designed to reflect the Serafini legacy: simple, soulful, and rooted in community.
Welcome to the Table
Serafini’s Trattoria is more than a restaurant—it’s a tribute to a family’s journey, a city’s love for great food, and a legacy that continues to grow. The Serafini family invites Erie to gather once again, just like Nona always intended.
We’ll see you in September 2025. Mangia!
