Power Restored to Most Erie County Residents After Outages

Only 375 Erie County residents were still without power as of 7:17 a.m. Tuesday, a sharp drop from the thousands who lost electricity the night before. The outages came as the region endured its first major heat wave of the year.

According to Penelec, outages peaked multiple times Monday night. Fairview Township reported 1,534 outages, Girard had 2,315, Lake City counted 1,189, and Platea saw 156. Nearby areas like Springfield and Conneaut were less impacted, with 158 and 239 outages respectively.

The first large wave of outages began around 9:22 p.m., affecting more than 5,700 customers. Numbers dropped briefly to 3,500 but quickly surged again, hitting over 5,800 by 10 p.m. Power remained unstable through the night.

No official cause has been released as crews continue working to identify the issue. In the meantime, residents are advised to stay hydrated and seek cool shelters if power disruptions return during this ongoing heat wave.
