Beach 8 Swimming Restriction Lifted Before Holiday Weekend

Good news for holiday weekend visitors — the swimming restriction at Beach 8 (Pettinato Beach) has been lifted just in time for July 4th celebrations. The Erie County Department of Health confirmed that water quality has improved after daily testing showed E. coli levels dropped below the threshold for restricted swimming.

Beach 8 now has a swimming advisory instead, which means people can swim but should be cautious. The advisory will stay in place until E. coli levels drop to safer numbers. While the beach will be guarded, visitors are urged to follow simple precautions to lower the risk of getting sick. These include avoiding swallowing lake water, washing hands before eating, not swimming with open wounds, and staying out of the water after heavy rains.

Other regulated swimming areas at Presque Isle Beach remain open and ready for families to enjoy. Beaches like Kohler Beach, Barracks Beach, Lyons Beach, Waterworks Beach, and Budny Beach will have lifeguards on duty during posted hours.

Visitors can check park signs for the latest updates and enjoy a safe, fun weekend by the lake.
