Erie Heatwave Spurs Rush for Air Conditioners at Area Hardward Stores

A string of scorching hot days has gripped Erie, Pennsylvania, driving people indoors and sending them to stores in search of air conditioning. At Lowe’s on Peach Street, air conditioners have been selling out fast as people try to stay cool.

Unbearable Heat Pushes Demand

Locals have described the heat as suffocating, with many unable to sleep comfortably. Families are rushing to grab whatever cooling devices they can find. Shoppers are finding shelves nearly empty, with only a small stack of AC units left over the weekend.

Limited Options, Higher Prices

For those on a budget, basic fans are still available. But many customers are looking for more powerful cooling options like window units and portable air conditioners. A typical window unit that cools around 330 square feet costs nearly $500. These are more suited for larger spaces, while portable units provide flexibility for different room sizes.

Help Is on the Way

With the high demand, Lowe’s has already sold out of its smaller air conditioners. However, relief may come soon. An emergency shipment from Lowe’s headquarters in North Carolina is expected to arrive midweek. This delivery will include more of the much-needed smaller units.
