A 57-year-old lawyer from Meadville is facing serious charges in what authorities are calling a violent sexual assault against a woman who had come to his office for legal help. The Meadville lawyer rape case has raised deep concern in the community, especially as more disturbing details have been released by police.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Meadville police, the woman visited Kevin Burke’s law office on May 5 to ask for legal representation. She explained she could not afford to pay at the time. Police say it was at that point that Burke closed the office door and began to grope and kiss her against her will.
The victim told police that she asked Burke to stop several times, but he continued. Investigators say Burke then forced her over a chair, removed her clothing, and raped her while she tried to keep her clothes on. During the assault, the woman said Burke put pressure on her neck so forcefully that she blacked out and didn’t regain consciousness until after the attack was over.
The Meadville lawyer rape case was first reported on May 12, when the woman was treated at Meadville Medical Center. During that visit, she described the incident to medical staff, who alerted law enforcement. DNA evidence was collected as part of the investigation and reportedly matched Burke.
When interviewed by police on May 22, Burke did not deny that a sexual encounter had taken place. However, he claimed it was consensual. Authorities did not find his statement credible, especially given the victim’s detailed report and the supporting DNA evidence.
Burke was officially charged and arraigned on September 11 in Crawford County Court. He faces multiple charges including felony rape by forcible compulsion, sexual assault, indecent assault without consent, and indecent exposure.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Burke was released after posting $200,000 bail. He is expected to appear in court again on September 25.
The Meadville lawyer rape case has shocked many residents who trusted the attorney’s professional standing. As the legal process unfolds, the community will be watching closely for justice to be served.
